April Blooms - Out and About on the Grange

There have been some gorgeous blooms

in gardens and pathways in
our postcode area this April.

Artist Phiona Richards paid another
Threads and Chatter visit to KBA

creating books from recycled papers

and demonstrating how to make an origami butterfly

you can see a slightly longer clip here

Carole Miles joined the gang at The Resource Centre

for some knitting and nattering - rumour has it Carole
was cutting out fabric to up-cycle at The Green Patch
Open day whilst there

she managed to snap a rare red lurex hedgehog.

Meanwhile down at The Green Patch

baking was taking place

the children made Rhubarb crumble - yum!

They have also been adding to
their View From Here books.

We can't believe just how fast the year is rushing past.

For more of the flavour of April out in our postcode area

The View From Here - Springing Forwards

The group have been working with Carole,
Sue and Nigel at The Green Patch.

Carole showed the group how to make simple prints
by drawing gently but firmly into polystyrene sheets

The plates were rolled with three colours

then burnished using the flat of the palm.

Prints

Some will be added to our
View From Here books

Plates after inking can be reused with different colours

Snacks

We went out onto the green Patch, collected twigs

and Sue showed the group how to create

a twiggy frame for prints to take home for Mothers Day

The View From Here Meets The Big Draw 2014

We thought it would be a great to generate ideas for our "View From Here" mosaics and take part in The Big Draw at the same time!

We asked the children to think of all the elements they see or associate with autumn and winter on The Green Patch.

Then we made a list of words and a list of colours to inspire our drawings before heading outside to find leaves, flowers, vegetables to make drawings of. Nigel and Lucy also found seed packets and pictures to help us.

We uploaded out drawings to the Big Draw Flickr set and you can see them all on this Back To Books Set as well

We love the engergy and colour of these drawings and can't wait to see what happens next!
