In 1996 Back To Books was formed as a Reading Group and commissioned artist Carole Miles and author Kathy Page to create a series of stories and prints, which toured as The Sensuous Page. 2008 saw the reincarnation of Back to Books; today the members are drawn together by a passion for reading, writing and making. The group raises funds on a project by project basis and have new projects in the pipeline.

Threads and Chatter - Character Squares
Our lovely artist Phiona Richards decided that our next Threads and Chatter project would be a three session event. She thought it would be great fun if everyone designed and made a square character soft toy.
We wrote words to describe our characters
then drew our designs,
using fabric crayons on paper,
inspired by our words.
Everyone drew very different patterns and
Phiona took them away to be
ironed onto the calico.
We can't wait to see how they turn out!
As an added bonus Phiona taught us how to fold a square Flexigon
here is a lovely video tutorial if you would like to try it yourself!
Did you know that flexigons can help you with your maths?
Our group thought they also made good square masks!

Threads and Chatter - Weaving
This week Phiona Richards
set the group a weaving project
yes, that's right, weaving!
We used an ingenious basket frame
paper twine and beads.
It was tricky but great fun,
everybody completed their basket
although we did think about
wearing them as hats instead!
And Phiona made this Flipagram reel
which you can see here

Phiona taught us how to choose then thread
beads through the holes in the sink traps.
