Join The Eloquent Fold, artists Carole Miles and Phiona Richards on a walk through woodland in East Carlton Park. 

Find the magic of this place as you weave your way through leaves and branches, touched by the light shining through the leaf canopies as Carole & Phiona draw you to looking at the shapes between and the textures, helping you to collect ideas and find inspiration for the print and thread workshop on the 11th September.

Threads and Chatter - Moon Rabbits

Phiona Richards had us hop to it this week!

Take one sock

snip a bit off here and there

take some wool and make a tail

add some stitches and stuffing,

draw a face and a neat bow tie

 and a neat bow tie

give each other a helping hand

and Hey Presto you have a Moon Rabbit

....or a hat!

Threads and Chatter - Paper Plate / Woven Tree

Another inventive session with our lovely Phiona Richards who showed us how to create a colourful tree from a paper plate, paint and threads

We chose a limited palette of paint

and painted a geometric, abstract background

taking care to make distinct areas of colour.

we cut slots in the top and bottom of the plate

 and added a series of horizontal threads.

Phiona then showed us how to weave our tree,

it took patience and concentration

and the results were just fabulous!

Threads and Chatter at KBA With Phiona Richards

A lovely box of threads, a room full of chatter

during our May session at KBA

where artist Phiona Richards had the group 

in stitches as she showed participants

 how to design and make

a beautiful felt bookmark.

Threads and Chatter - Threaded Mandalas at KBA

Artist Phiona Richards lead another delightful 

Threads and Chatter session at KBA.

Using lolly sticks and stirrers 

to create the spokes of a wheel 

the group wrapped colourful yarns 

around the spokes to create a woven 

pattern which could be hung in a window.

Excellent work and great fun!

Threading and Chattering at The Green Patch

Artist Phiona Richards showed young people at the Green Patch how to transform a circle of cardboard into a magical decoration by drawing patterns and adding some yarn. In amongst all the making we had time to share stories about our day, have a healthy snack and a bit of a run around outside before it got to dark. 

Draw a circle, make your marks

wind your threads, create more patterns.

Pine cones were also threaded!

Beads made a sparkling addition.

Lucy found a holly branch to briefly hang the decorations from.

We just had time to take a few photos before parents arrived and decorations were whisked away home by their proud makers! You can see the full set of photos here.
