The Green Patch are taking part in Kettfest 

so Carole decided that the it would be a wonderful 

opportunity for The View From Here Groups

to show off their creative skills

so participants at Grange Place and The green Patch

got busy decorating fish flags

we had many different patterns

and they look wonderful catching the breeze

Making Connections

Carole was contacted by by a member of Kettering Civic Society for some mosaic advice which resulted in a long and lively meeting at Kettering Station and the Green Patch. The Civic Society now have a project room on Platform 1 at the station, they are also trying to raise funds to reinstate a 1960s mosaic panel by artist Kenneth Budd.

Key to the mosaic

During her conversation with Monica, it transpired 

that Monica's father, Allan Page, had had a wool shop 

in the Grange Place shopping precinct in the 1956's. 

Allan was also concerned that there was nowhere for the young people to hang out so he also opened a tea room with a milk machine, the height of 50's chic! The Wool Shop was directly opposite what is now the Grange Place Resource Centre.

be part of the Fashion exhibition currently 

on at Kettering Museum!

The log tables are really inventive and 

could almost be from The Green Patch of today.

Seeing these photographs seems almost like time travelling 

- the brick planters looks very smart and is no longer there today. 

The Binding Thread - Felting

The wintery weather gave us the perfect opportunity to roll out some fleecy, felted scarves with artist Carole Miles. We used hot water, soap, bubble wrap, bamboo mats and plenty of fiction to make light weigh scarves to keep off the winter chill.

After noticing that the scarves were a little fragile we sewed on vintage woollen fabrics to give extra strength and warmth. Scarves modelled by artist Phiona Richards (wearing her own demonstration creation), project volunteer Margot Norris and Green Patch friend Nigel Bennet.

Wild Flowers Not Weeds

Sometimes it's hard to distinguish

between wild flowers and weeds

so we thought we'd crochet some extra colour

for a temporary installation 

 

to be wrapped around the planter

in Grange Place.

We talk, exchange experiences

laugh and help each other along.

We think about the threads that 

link all our different lives together.

We make colourful blooms, 

from loops and holes. 

In this lovely community space, 

The Resource Centre 

new friendships blossom.

We'll be back again on Friday the 20th.
