We can now reveal that we have an Awards For all grant for our next project “On the Right Track” which is an inclusive, healthy lifestyle project taking the Brampton Valley Way as its focus, with the aim of improving fitness whilst creatively engaging with the natural environment. As a group we feel it is increasingly important to encourage people out of their houses and into the fresh air.
Work, unemployment, illness or retirement tend to keep people indoors and sometimes it’s hard to break to cycle of “I’ll do it tomorrow”. Combining physical exercise with creative and mental stimulus in a series of structured monthly events will help get us out and exploring! The Brampton Valley Way has many benches and stopping points and the project will draw participants to a different part of the Valley Way each month. In the colder months meetings will take place indoors, either at Brixworth Country Park or on the station platform of the Northampton & Lamport Railway, a charitable organisation run by volunteers.
The project activities will have several elements:-
• A moveable Book Club - Walking Words and Cycling Stories. Participants will walk or cycle to meetings to a meeting point along the Valley Way or at Brixworth Country Park, bring a picnic, discuss book, one book per month. Books chosen with themes connected to the project.
• Ticket To Write - an author visit in March 2012 followed by an online writing course by the inspirational author Kathy Page who will be Back to Books' Writer in Residence in 2012. Apart from her novels and short stories you can also read this beautifully observed essay The Perfect Day and Kathy's new book, In the Flesh, deals with how we inhabit our bodies and connects directly to our project. It will be available in the UK from Spring 2012
• Story telling events - With A Word in Edgeways. Four opportunities for hearing tall tales told by the wonderful Philippa Tipper and Allan Davies.
• Photography Walks – with Mac Canonymous aka Andrew Rushton recording the route through the seasons using digital film & photography.
• Re-Make, Re-Model with Carole Miles. Meeting at Northampton & Lamport Station or Brixworth Country Park to walk or cycle, and then recycle / up-cycle textiles and tea wares. Carole will also be acting as Project Coordinator.
